My Mean, Lean Walkin' Machine

Rex is getting around on his own two feet a lot more now. I love seeing kids walk before they learn to be really sturdy. I think it's adorable. Here's the little man strutin' his stuff.

One more look at his moves.

Jeff and Mini-Jeff

We went out to get snow cones on Saturday night. (Yes, all of my posts revolve around food.) I took a few shots of my boys because I couldn't resist.
I love how they have the identical serious faces. Eating is very serious business for us.
Now if you really know Jeff, you will understand why this shot may be my favorite picture ever. Jeff has this stinky face he gives me and Rex has inherited the IDENTICAL look. I caught them both here. I can't look at this picture without laughing so hard. That is totally Jeff and mini-Jeff and I love them both.

Sluuuuuurpeeee!

Now that Rex is one, I've been slowly introducing him to the good things in life. Today he had his first slurpee. We walked to seven eleven and he got to hold and sip it the whole way home. Needless to say, he loved it.
When we got home he still wanted to slurp some more.
Slurping is very serious business.
He wasn't too keen on sharing it with me. This shot is my favorite because he even has his little legs wrapped tightly around it.

Waiting for Daddy

I thought it would be fun to take a little picture of Rex by our house number. The little car I have is for decoration in our home, but once in a while I let Rex play with it. I have to give him something to keep him still when taking a picture.

A Sunday Stroll

We took a short Sunday stroll today. (emphasis on "short" since Rex wasn't in the stroller)
I love seeing Rex and Jeff walking together (or doing anything together for that matter). They have so much fun with each other.
Rex think flowers are pretty cool.
He's getting bolder with walking, but he's not all the way there yet. His record is about 12 steps.
I'm not sure who likes this more.
I love the weekends! It's so much fun to have time for just the three of us.

Things Rex Learned This Week

One of my favorite things about the stage Rex is in is that he is learning so much everyday. Here are a few things he learned this week.
1) Chalk doesn't taste good. I gave him the chalk so he'd sit still for a picture. His mouth was coated by the end and I never got a great shot.
2) Watermelon does taste good. Rex is in love with watermelon. He even likes playing with it before I cut it. He rolls it and walks along.
3) Swimming pools are fun. He likes playing in his little pool, but he doesn't realize he has to have on a swimsuit to do that. He tries to get in the pool whenever he sees it.
4) Cotton candy is amazing stuff. Since we had lots of leftovers, Rex finds a bag of it and then brings it to me so I can open it for him. I am rationing him, though.
5) Walking in flip flops is a lot harder. I usually let Rex go barefoot, but when I strap shoes on he gets a bit more tipsy. I love to see his little feet in them, though.
Things I'm hoping Rex will learn soon:
1) How to change his own diaper
2) Screaming isn't the way to get what you want.
3) How to prepare a meal
4) How to give a back massage
5) Mommy is always right :)

They Say It's Your Birthday...

Cassie was the b-day party photographer and Chris is so good at making videos. Here's their work. Thanks guys!!!

Cotton Candy Anyone?

I thought it would be really fun to rent a cotton candy machine for Rex's birthday. (Okay so now you're thinking..."Hmmm...was that really for Rex or was it for Cheri?" Yes, you make a good point.) Anyhow, when the lady told me how much cotton candy one carton made I figured she was exagerating, so I ordered big. Turns out she wasn't exagerating. We used the machine for his party and every kid there had several servings. Then we took it to a family party the next day where all the kids had several servings. When we got home we decided to make the rest of it. Wow! If anybody wants some, let us know.
Here I am with the machine. I'm kind of sad to return it tomorrow. After serving up the cotton candy I had it everywhere. You can see it growing up my arm in this picture.
Here's Jeff showing off some of the leftovers.
I think we're going to let Rex sell it out on our street corner so he can start saving up for college.

Party On

We had a little party for Rex on Saturday in honor of his birthday. (We're already teaching him to stretch out his birthday to make it last.) Here are the official birthday cake shots.
He started off in a dainty kind of way, just dipping in his fingers.
Then he found a more efficient way to get the cake in.
He ended up pretty covered, but I liked the chocolate facial hair phase the best.

Stats

Today was Rex's one year appointment and here are his stats:
Weight: 25%
Height: 97%
Head Size: 95%
Crankiness: 99%
As pictured below, Rex has been a little crabby lately. That's why the photo shoot didn't feature any pictures of him. Not everyone adores pictures like this...

In Black and White

I played around with some editing stuff on some of the pictures from the previous shoot. Here they are.

High on a Mountain Top

I was talking to Cassie yesterday about how I would love to learn more about photography and she said she'd let me shoot her boys. So, we headed up the canyon today with a camera and a picnic. Here's some of my favorite shots. The problem is, when you love someone, you think every shot is adorable. I had a hard time picking just a couple.
Here's little Cooper bundled in white.
He is a sweet baby and his mommy is in love.
She is also in love with this little red head.
Cam thought this bridge over the water was pretty cool.
I'm pretty crazy about the little red head, too.
Here's his crazy little oufit we dressed him in.
Here's a couple more of Coop. There was this perfect little beam of light on his soft face.
So soft.
Cam was a real trooper. He let me take lots of pictures and he even smiled on command!

Well, that's it for now. Feel free to tell me which pics you like the best. I'm still trying to learn this new skill.

Happy Birthday Rex!!!

It doesn't seem like he could be possibly be a year old, but at the same time it's hard to remember life without the little man. We are so grateful for the joy he has brought into our lives...more than I ever could have imagined. Here's one great year in a glance.

Tiny Toes

I used to absolutely hate feet. I freaked out when people touched me with them. Now, I have a set of feet that I can't get enough of. I love how Rex crosses his little feet wherever he sits. I took this picture while he was sitting on my lap. By the time he gets to be a sweaty teenager, I have a feeling his feet might not be so cute to me anymore.

My Little Sunshine

Well, it's been a long day. Jeff and I both got what Rex had. Now I feel even worse for him. It was bad. Rather than post a picture of how horrible we look, I thought I'd post one I edited for fun while I was stuck on the couch. Here's my little sunshine.
